Description

Hand embroidered – vintage Decorative Cushions from Afghanistan

Made by women who were among the millions of Afghans who fled to escape the 1979-89 Soviet – Afghan war.

Everyone knows of the National Geographic image of ‘The Afghan Girl’ that was published in 1985. She was one of those refugee women.

They were set up into hundreds of camps where the women made more such products and were acquired by retailers and businesses of that time.

This art work is fast becoming obsolete in the region as the displaced refugees no longer have the means or time to indulge in these activities in the war torn Afghanistan.

What is available with limited retailers now is the remains of those products.
