The Parisian brand “The Nines” contributed its know how to design this unique cufflink collaboration with Article22.
This exclusive collection consists of two pairs of AG925 solid silver cufflinks and aluminum from recycled bombs and war scrap.
Between 1964 and 1973 during the Vietnam War more than 2 million tons of ordinance were dropped on farmland in Laos, 1 in 3 cluster munitions failed to detonate on impact making laos the most heavily bombed country in history per capita. In the 1970s, farmer artisans in Laos began recycling these bombs into spoons by recovering the metal from the shell casings. The Article22 designers decided to turn these remains of bombs into jewelry in order to raise funds in collaboration with NGO MAG (Mines Advisory Group) which launches demining operations in the country. The craftsman use homemade kilns and wood and ash molds to melt the metal, handpour and cast each piece and bring these unique designs to life.
The packaging is made from rice leaf and cotton, these are also made in Laos by woman weavers to help a greater number of artisans, to date Article22 employ 40 in laos.
With each purchase of ‘The Nines’ B52 cufflinks 9m2 of bomb littered land is cleared of deadly lndmines and a donation is made by the brand to the village development fund managed by MAG (Mines Advisary Group)
