The wakir is the traditional perch on which a falcon rests between flights, and it is one of the most recognisable images in Emirati culture. A falcon on a wakir is a study in controlled power: alert, watchful, utterly calm. It is also the image you will find on the UAE dirham, on the national emblem, and in homes and offices across the country. There is no more quintessentially Emirati thing.

Falconry has been practised in the Gulf for over 4,000 years. For the resource-scarce Bedouin of the desert, it was not a hobby but a vital hunting skill, built on years of patient training and a deep bond of trust between bird and falconer.
