The Emirati Majlis (‘council’ or ‘assembly’) has been an essential part of the social and political life in the United Arab Emirates for generations, serving as a forum for the community to interact, discuss issues and to teach youth traditions and culture through story telling and poetry; traditionally the womens majlis also contributed to imparting traditional craft skills.  Today, majalis are just as important as they’ve always been, with many Emiratis having a small majlis in their home.

In a nation where physical culture and heritage is not always obvious, the majlis and its hospitality, sense of community and storytelling can help inspire the future by looking at the past. Little Majlis products spark curiosity in a subtle way, and therefore prompt conversations, encourage human connection and highlight tradition, just as the majlis does in Emirati culture

Little Majlis’ products are designed in the United Arab Emirates using graphics by female Emirati designers that we admire very much!

Our visual culture products have sustainablity creditentials throughout the design, production and supply process. With an emphasis on functional and where ever possible #madeinUAE gifts, we also source the majority of our materials locally.

Materials used for stationery items are generally made of either recycled or recyclable paper without lamination. Camel leather is sourced from a UAE environmentally friendly factory that does not use any solvents in production and therefore VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) emissions are kept to an extremely low level. We don’t promote the use of non plant based vegan leather (we try to avoid PU leather). If cello packaging is a requirement to protect the product in store we use a product made of compostable type.

Our design and packaging contributes to the story telling of the product. Packaging is kept to a minimum, and is adapted to suit the shelf life and context of the product placement (e.g. anticipated footfall and handling); we like to achieve desirable products with reasonable pricepoints, without compromising on quality.

Most of our products are also made locally and they are all ethically hand and/or workshop made. Because of our production methods, there may be slight variation between products of the same type. We like to think it adds to their charm!
